CULTÚRLANN UÍ CHANÁIN.

Gaeláras / Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin have acquired a row of buildings beside their iconic building. Adjacent to their old church and recently refurbished Manse, included in this row is their “School House” project. They have plans for this old Presbyterian school building to be converted into student accommodation. The building will provide accommodation for thirty Ulster University students studying for the degree in Irish at nearby Magee Campus. They each will have their own individual living space. The intention of this project is to encourage ongoing engagement with the students studying the degree whilst at the same time fully integrating them with the activities of their neighbours in Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin. The Cultúrlann will in turn provide employment opportunities, work placements and a sense of understanding in community development issues for the degree students. There are still a few gaps in pulling together the full funding package.
