Glór na Móna’s new Community Facility, Gael-Ionad Mhic Goill, was completed in June 2016. It is located on the site of the old Bunscoil an tSléibhe Dhúibh. Already in the few short years operationally this new aged community facility has become the cultural hub for Irish language classes and cultural activities in the disadvantaged Upper Springfield area. The project promoters regularly host events during the popular Féile an Phobail every August and facilitate their own weeklong programme of activities in October’s Féile na Carraige. The team are a young vibrant group of local dedicated individuals some of whom are in paid community positions and others who volunteer their services on a weekly basis. They are already planning an extensive phase 2 project on the adjacent site.
